PRESIDENTE INTERCONTINENTAL COZUMEL RESORT & SPA, RELEASED THE SECOND LITTER OF SEA TURTLES ON THE RESORT’S BEACH

Hotel staff and guest helped 60 newly hatched sea turtles to find their way to the ocean

Cozumel’s Ecology Department was in charge of monitoring the eggs from their appearance until their release

Cozumel, Mexico, August 26, 2011. - On July, during the morning walk of the security department of the resort, great news were discovered; a loggerhead turtle swam during the night and chose the hotel beach to host its nest.

Based on this wonderful news, a biologist from Cozumel’s Ecology Department visited the resort and inspected the area, calculating that in approximately 60 days a litter of loggerhead sea turtles would be born.

From his first visit, the biologist Mr. Hector Gonzalez was responsible of overseeing and monitoring the correct evolution of the eggs; on the other hand, the employees of Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, were in charge of keeping the nests safe and free of any danger. The baby turtles continued growth and preparation for later be incorporated naturally into marine life. 

Finally, on August 24, guests and hotel staff supervised by the Ecology Department authorities could once again live the amazing experience of helping sea turtles to find their way to the ocean and begin their lives naturally.

This natural wonder had reinforced the commitment of the resort with the surrounding environment and the protection of flora and fauna.

Colaboradores  y huéspedes del hotel ayudaron por segunda ocasión a 60 tortugas marinas recién nacidas a encontrar su camino al océano

Los huevecillos fueron monitoreados desde su aparición hasta la liberación por la Dirección de Ecología del H. Ayuntamiento de Cozumel

Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Agosto 24, 2011.- El pasado mes de julio, durante el habitual recorrido matutino, el departamento de seguridad, descubrió por segunda ocasión que una tortuga caguama nadó durante la noche y escogió la playa del hotel para albergar su nido. Ante la maravillosa noticia, un biólogo de la Dirección de Ecología del H. Ayuntamiento de Cozumel visitó el resort e inspeccionó el área comentando que en un periodo no mayor a 60 días, una camada de tortugas nacería.

A partir de la primera visita, el biólogo Héctor González se encargó de vigilar y monitorear el correcto desarrollo y evolución de los huevecillos; por su parte, los colaboradores de Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, se aseguraron de mantener protegidos los nidos y libres de cualquier peligro, fue así que durante 60 días, las tortugas siguieron su crecimiento y preparación para posteriormente incorporarse de manera natural a la vida marina.

Finalmente, el 24 de agosto huéspedes y colaboradores supervisados por la Dirección de Ecología del H Ayuntamiento de Cozumel pudieron vivir nuevamente  la maravillosa experiencia de ayudar a las tortuguitas marinas a encontrar el camino para llegar al océano y empezar sus vidas naturalmente. Esta maravilla de la naturaleza reforzó el compromiso que tiene el hotel con el entorno que lo rodea y con la protección de la flora y fauna locales.
